KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese national who was admitted to the isolation ward in Hospital Permai, Johor Baru on Jan 24 after being infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus has been discharged, the country’s second case of recovery from the infection.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a posting on his Facebook page yesterday said results of the third coronavirus test conducted on the man turned out negative.
He said the patient who was confirmed the country’s fourth coronavirus case fully recovered after being treated with anti-viral medicine Kaletra (off-label use) for eight days from Jan 28.
“After eight days of treatment, the patient’s condition improved and he was fully cured. He was allowed to return home this afternoon,” he said.
Noor Hisham said the 40-year-old man from Wuhan, China, was admitted to the hospital after showing symptoms of high fever and pneumonia.
He said the patient’s condition worsened on the second day which required him to be given oxygen.
“A chest X-ray on the fourth day showed signs of increased severity of infection,“ he added.
Noor Hisham also congratulated the dedicated medical team led by Infectious Disease specialist Dr Masliza Zaid for the success.
