The prospect of a new Prime Minister dominates this morning’s front pages. After months of speculation, Theresa May has reportedly bowed to pressure depart Downing Street within weeks - with Boris Johnson said to have immediately thrown his hat into the ring to replace her.
The Daily Telegraph headlines claims May was “tearful” during the emotionally-charged meeting of the 1922 Committee, while The Times described her as “plead[ing] for time” - while The Daily Mirror couldn’t resist a pun, declaring: “May ends in June”.
Some papers looked further afield for their top story, including The Guardian, which this morning leads with the news that Iran’s military chief has told its militia allies in the Middle East to “prepare for proxy war” amid mounting tensions with the US.
