Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose has revealed that a transfer fell through last year because an interested club enquired if he was “crazy”.

The England defender, who spoke out last year about his battle against depression, was stunned by the enquiry the Daily Mirror and i Sport report.

Rose has been named in the Three Lions squad for the Uefa Nations League finals in June. England manager Gareth Southgate faced the press on Thursday and was asked a number of questions, including many about racism in football.

A number of England players, including Rose, suffered racial abuse in a qualifying match in Montenegro in March.

Southgate was asked if the England players would walk off the pitch in the event of the abuse happening again. The Guardian and the Daily Star both report that the team would stay on the pitch and not walk off.

In golf defending champion Brooks Koepka hit a course record in the opening round of the US PGA Championship major on Thursday. “Catch me if you can” reads The Daily Telegraph’s back page headline.
